Rate Increases, Other Changes in 2012
Starting January 1, water rates are increasing by 2% and sanitary sewer rates are increasing 3%.
This means the typical household using 6,000 gallons of water per month will see their water bill increase by $0.65 per month, while their sewer
bill will increase by $1.35 per month. These increases, approved by Board of Greene County Commissioners in November, are necessary to cover
increased operating costs and provide the funding needed for ongoing infrastructure improvement and replacement.
Greene County’s water and sewer systems are solely supported by monthly user fees, tap-in fees, and other service charges. No tax dollars
are contributed to the water and sewer funds. The Sanitary Engineering Department is striving to reduce operating expenses without compromising our
commitment to delivering safe drinking water and dependable sewer service to our customers, at present and into the future.
Other Fees Also Increasing
We greatly appreciate customers who pay on time. It is very costly for us to process late payments because it ties up resources in our billing,
customer service, cashier, and other departments for several days. This is a cost that on-time payers should not have to subsidize; therefore,
we have increased the late payment penalty fee from 5% to 7.5% of the outstanding monthly balance.
In addition, the returned check fee has increased from $30 to $40 per returned check or ACH transaction, effective January 1. All bills are due
on the last business day of the month. Payment plans are available under special circumstances.
Credit Card Payments Coming
For your convenience, Greene County Sanitary Engineering is working with the County Treasurer to implement a county-wide credit card payment program
later this year. We are planning to make several credit card payment options available for our customers including online, telephone and in person.
Department Hosts Workshops & Plant Tours To Share Information
The Sanitary Engineering Department has a renewed focus on sharing operational and financial information with the public. In an effort to demonstrate
this transparency, the County Commissioners and Department held several events in late 2011.
On August 30th, community workshops were held in the morning and evening to discuss water and sewer operations with customers and stakeholders, and listen
to their concerns. A copy of the presentation is available on the Greene County Sanitary Engineering website.
In September, Sanitary Engineering and County Commissioners hosted plant tours of the Beavercreek Wastewater Treatment Plant on Factory Road, and the
Northwest Regional Water Treatment Plant on Beaver Valley Road.
“These events were a great opportunity to hear from our customers, and share our operational information with them,” said Ron Volkerding,
Director, Greene County Sanitary Engineering Department. “We hope more people will join us in 2012.”
The County Commissioners and Department plan to make these community workshops and plant tours annual events.
