Community Housing Improvement Program

The CHIP program is designed to provide financial assistance to income-eligible homeowners whose property is in need of repair. The Department of Development applied for, and was awarded, funds through Fiscal Year 2009 Community Housing Improvement Program (FY09 CHIP).  These funds will be used for owner-occupied property rehabilitation and home repair. Through our Home Repair Program, we provided funds to four households in 2009, with funds available to serve more households in 2010.
The Greene County Department of Development is not permitted to use its CHIP funding in the cities of Fairborn or Xenia. Programs similar to those offered by Greene County Community Development may or may not be offered by the cities of Fairborn and Xenia. Residents of these cities should contact their Community Development office to inquire about similar programs. In the City of Fairborn, call 937-754-3056; In the City of Xenia, call 937-376-7284. Other community organizations may also be able to help in some cases.

2010/2011 CHIP Programs:

Structural problems, lead paint issues, and mold issues can become very costly, but the Department of Development may be able to help. For homes that are in an unsafe condition and require major repairs, the Owner-Occupied Property Rehabilitation (Rehab) program can provide assistance in the form of a loan.
While funding for this program has been exhausted, we hope to provide a similar program in the future. Please check with our office in August of 2012 for information about possible future loan programs.

The Home Repair Program can assist homeowners in making necessary repairs to their homes. However, funding for the 2010 Home Repair program has been exhausted. This program helped 22 Greene County households make repairs to their homes. We may be able to provide programs similar to this in the future. Please check with our office in August of 2012 for information about possible future home repair programs.

For more information on the Department of Development's CHIP programs, please contact Cherise Schell at (937) 562-5644 or email cschell@co.greene.oh.us.
