What is the Today Center
for Adults? It is a comprehensive care
service for handicapped and older adults. Sponsored by
the Board of Greene County Commissioners, the program is
designed for people who need assistance, socialization,
supervision and care during the day. The purpose of the
program is to help adults maintain the ability to live
in their own home or a family member’s home and to offer
support to families caring for older adults. Activities
are designed to maximize the potential of each
participant while increasing self-esteem.
Who can benefit?
Physically disabled and developmentally disabled adults;
socially isolated adults; stroke victims; mentally
impaired adults; Alzheimer/dementia adults; adults who
are limited in their ability to function independently
in their community, but who do not need nursing home
care.
When is the Center open?
The Today Center is open Monday through Friday, 8:00
a.m. – 5:00 p.m. The Today Center is closed on all
legal holidays.
What services are
provided? Daily Activities:
exercise, walking, group discussions, bible study, guest
speakers, arts & crafts, pet therapy, individual
projects, activities with children, gardening, games,
poetry, movies, cooking, music. Health Services:
health assessments, health monitoring, health education,
physical, occupational & speech therapy,
beautician/barber, podiatry. Social Services:
individual counseling, family counseling, group therapy
sessions, referral to other services. Transportation:
handicapped accessible vans. Nutrition: a hot
noon meal (special meals are provided for dietary
restrictions), snacks.
How is the Center Staffed?
The day program is staffed by a Director, Activity
Coordinator, Social Service Coordinator, Registered
Nurse/Licensed Practical Nurse, Activity Assistants,
volunteers, university students, and Medical Director.
A high staff to participant ratio is maintained to
ensure loving, individualized attention.
How is the Program funded?
The Today Center For Adults is financially supported by
various federal, state and local funding sources,
including: Greene County Job and Family Services (Title
XX), Area Agency on Aging PSA2, Greene County Board of
Commissioners, Greene County Council on Aging,
Foundations/Corporate Giving, Private Donations. Our
program is eligible for Passport and Waiver Disability
funding. Fees are based on a sliding fee scale
according to gross monthly income. There is no fee for
those on limited income as specified by the Greene
County Job and Family Services.
