As a result of serious and/or repeated delinquent behavior,
it is sometimes necessary to place a youth in the care and
custody of the Ohio Department of Youth Services. The
Department maintains eight juvenile institutions, the
purpose for which is to provide a secure, humane and healthy
environment for youth who have been adjudicated delinquent
by reason of committing a felony offense. The Department is
directed to maintain safe and secure facilities by providing
primary care such as food, clothing, shelter and medical
care. The Department also maintains a controlled
environment to ensure public safety.
In addition, the Department of Youth Services provides
treatment services to youth in aftercare through seven
regional offices.
